Deadlock Update Schedule Shifting in 2025: Fewer, Larger Patches Planned

Valve has announced a change in its update strategy for Deadlock in 2025, moving towards larger, less frequent patches. This follows a year of consistent updates in 2024. While this may disappoint some players expecting constant content, Valve clarifies that this shift aims to improve the development process and allow for more substantial updates.

The decision comes as the fast-paced update cycle proved challenging for internal iteration and external adaptation. The bi-weekly update schedule, beneficial initially, hindered the team's ability to fully assess the impact of changes before releasing the next update.

Deadlock, Valve's free-to-play MOBA, launched on Steam earlier in 2024, quickly gaining popularity in the competitive hero-shooter market, despite competition from titles like Marvel Rivals. Its distinctive steampunk aesthetic and polished gameplay have contributed to its success.

The recent winter update, featuring unique gameplay alterations, foreshadows the potential for future limited-time events and modes. Valve developer Yoshi confirmed on the official Deadlock Discord that future major patches will be less frequent but significantly larger in scope, resembling event-style releases rather than small hotfixes. Hotfixes will continue as needed.

Currently boasting 22 playable characters and an additional 8 in Hero Labs mode, Deadlock has already garnered praise for its diverse roster and innovative anti-cheat measures. While an official release date remains unannounced, further Deadlock news is anticipated in 2025.

Key Takeaways:

  • Reduced Update Frequency: Deadlock updates will be less frequent in 2025.
  • Larger Patch Sizes: Updates will be more substantial and event-driven.
  • Improved Development: The change aims to optimize Valve's internal development process.
  • No Official Release Date: A release date for Deadlock has yet to be confirmed.
