Nonograms, also known as Hanjie, Griddlers, Picross, Japanese Crosswords, Japanese Puzzles, Pic-a-Pix, "Paint by numbers," and other names, are captivating picture logic puzzles. In these puzzles, you color or leave blank cells in a grid according to numbers at the side of the grid, revealing a hidden picture. The numbers represent discrete tomography, indicating the count of unbroken lines of filled squares in each row or column. For instance, a clue of "4 8 3" signifies sets of four, eight, and three filled squares, separated by at least one blank cell.
Solving a nonogram requires determining which cells to fill with boxes and which to leave as spaces. Both are crucial; spaces later help in placing clues accurately. Solvers typically mark certain spaces with a dot or a cross. Importantly, never guess; only fill cells that logic dictates. A single incorrect guess can ruin the entire puzzle.
