An Elden Ring player's ambitious undertaking: conquering Messmer the Impaler daily until the release of Elden Ring: Nightreign. This dedicated gamer, known as chickensandwich420, is documenting his incredible journey.
A Daily Grind: No-Hit Messmer Battles
Rather than passively awaiting Nightreign, chickensandwich420 devised a unique challenge: defeating Messmer, a notoriously difficult boss from the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, every day. The twist? He uses a different weapon each time, aiming for a flawless no-hit victory on NG+7.
His daily battles began December 16, 2024, a testament to his commitment. Initially planning a broader FromSoftware boss marathon, he opted for the focused Messmer challenge to balance his university studies.
Messmer's infamy precedes him; players report needing 30 to over 150 attempts for victory, even with optimal equipment. chickensandwich420's undertaking is truly remarkable.
However, there's a caveat: a self-imposed June deadline. If Nightreign doesn't launch by then, he'll expand his challenge to other games. This means potentially over 160 days of battling Messmer. At the time of writing, he's on day 23.
Elden Ring: Nightreign, a three-player co-op spin-off, was announced at The Game Awards 2024, slated for a 2025 release. Given FromSoftware's history, however, a delay is possible. Will chickensandwich420's dedication be rewarded with Nightreign's timely arrival, or will a delayed launch bring an end to his epic Messmer marathon? Only time will tell.
