READY! for Kindergarten is the premier school readiness program developed by The Children's Reading Foundation, specifically designed for children ages 2 to 5, as well as older children who may need additional support in core developmental skills.
The READY! for Kindergarten app empowers parents and caregivers to prepare young learners for future academic success through engaging, interactive gameplay. Each game within the app is carefully crafted to target and develop a specific core skill. Young children thrive on repetition, and these games are designed to be played multiple times in a nurturing environment—helping reinforce learning through consistent practice.
To learn more about the skill each game teaches, simply touch the “i” icon located in the lower-right corner next to each game icon. As your child plays, the app automatically tracks progress and sends data to the built-in reporting section. This feature allows you to monitor your child’s development in key skill areas and compare their achievements with those of children of similar age across the United States, helping you identify where extra focus may be beneficial.
For children aged 2 to 5, the app introduces essential early learning concepts including singing the ABC song, matching letter shapes, identifying letter sounds, expanding vocabulary, rote counting to 30, and recognizing emotions—all foundational elements for kindergarten readiness.
At the heart of the READY! program are 26 Age-Level Targets—measurable developmental milestones that most 5-year-olds should achieve before entering kindergarten. These research-backed targets were developed over seven years by early childhood education experts in collaboration with families, scientists, and educators to ensure every child builds a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
In recognition of its impactful approach, READY! for Kindergarten was honored with a Top 100 Award for educational programs by District Administration Magazine in 2013.
