Overwatch 2 Stadium Summer Roadmap Revealed by Blizzard

Author : Ellie May 03,2025

Blizzard Entertainment has recently shared an exciting roadmap for Overwatch 2's Stadium mode, detailing the heroes and features slated for Season 17, Season 18, Season 19, and beyond in 2025. In a comprehensive Director's Take blog post, game director Aaron Keller not only introduced the summer roadmap but also shed light on the mode's origins and its impressive performance since its launch just over a week ago.

PlayStadium Gets 7 New Heroes This Summer -------------------------------------

The excitement for Stadium continues to build as new Damage hero Freja is set to join the mode with a mid-season patch during Season 16. However, it's Season 17 in June that promises to elevate the experience with the addition of Junkrat, Sigma, and Zenyatta. Alongside these heroes, players can look forward to exploring the new Esperança Push and Samoa Control maps.

Blizzard plans to enhance the Stadium experience further by introducing Unranked Crossplay, new all-star rewards, custom games, example builds, and the ability to save and share builds. While it's not clear if all these features will be available at the start of Season 17 or rolled out throughout the season, players can anticipate a richer and more engaging gameplay environment.

Moving into Season 18, Overwatch's beloved gorilla hero Winston, along with Sojourn and Brigitte, will join the Stadium roster. This season will also introduce the Route 66 and London maps, and a new Payload Race game mode complete with two additional maps. Players will also enjoy the Stadium trials feature and the ability to Endorse their teammates, fostering a more collaborative community.

Looking ahead to Season 19 and beyond, Blizzard has promised multiple new heroes from both the existing Overwatch 2 roster and unrevealed characters. A new China map, a Draft Mode feature, consumables, and tweaks to the item system are also on the horizon, ensuring continuous evolution and excitement for the mode.

How has Stadium Performed so Far?

The Overwatch 2 team has shared compelling statistics that highlight Stadium's success. Since its launch, Stadium has surpassed both Quick Play and Competitive modes, becoming the most played mode in Overwatch 2. In its first week alone, it recorded 2.3 million matches played over 7.8 million hours, significantly outpacing the launch week performance of Overwatch Classic.

Notable statistics include Lucio boasting both the highest win rate and the lowest pick rate, while players have collectively spent 900 billion Stadium Cash on selecting 206 million items for their builds. These figures underscore the mode's popularity and the community's engagement with its unique features.

In his Director's Take, Aaron Keller clarified that Stadium was in development before Overwatch 2 launched, dispelling rumors that it was created in response to Marvel Rivals, which debuted in December 2024. Keller emphasized Blizzard's ongoing commitment to transparent communication, promising more insights into Stadium in the following week.

Keller reaffirmed Blizzard's dedication to the core modes of Overwatch, stating that Stadium is not competing for resources but rather providing new avenues for delivering the Overwatch experience. He teased Season 18 as a particularly exciting update and encouraged players to enjoy Stadium while anticipating more great content.

Stadium was introduced with the launch of Season 16 last week, aligning with Blizzard's broader efforts to revitalize the player base. These efforts began with an all-encompassing Spotlight presentation in February, leading to the reintroduction of loot boxes and an improved Steam rating, with many fans considering this to be the best Overwatch experience in years.

As we await further updates, players can delve into our comprehensive guide on how Stadium works, and check out our recommendations for the best Tank Builds, DPS Builds, and Support Builds to optimize their gameplay.
