Bandai Namco has announced the unfortunate shutdown of PAC-MAN Mobile, which strikes an ironic note as the legendary icon marks its 45th anniversary this year. This version of the game, which was launched over a decade ago and was previously known as PAC-MAN + Tournaments, offered much more than just the classic arcade experience.
When Is the PAC-MAN Mobile Shutdown?
The official shutdown date for PAC-MAN Mobile is set for May 30th, 2025. In-app purchases have been discontinued as of April 1st, but players can continue to enjoy the game until the final date. Many fans have expressed disappointment over the complete shutdown rather than an offline version, which would have been more acceptable and could have continued generating revenue for Bandai Namco.
PAC-MAN Mobile was not just about reliving the classic 8-bit arcade vibes. It featured a Story Mode with a plethora of original mazes, an Adventure Mode with limited-time themed events where players could earn exclusive skins, and a Tournament Mode with weekly maze challenges across three difficulty levels. The game also boasted a variety of skins for PAC-MAN, the ghosts, the joystick, and more.
The Reason
The decision to shut down the game seems to stem from persistent issues and bugs that have plagued PAC-MAN Mobile for the past few years. The initial launch on Android was filled with excitement as players competed for high scores and leaderboard rankings, making it a fun and engaging experience in its early days.
If you're keen on playing PAC-MAN Mobile one last time before its final curtain, you can still download it from the Google Play Store.
