Capcom Hunts PC Optimization for 'Monster Hunter Wilds'

Author : Sarah Feb 25,2025

With Monster Hunter Wilds' February 28th release approaching, Capcom is actively investigating ways to reduce the game's recommended GPU requirements. This follows feedback from the community.

The official German Monster Hunter X/Twitter account confirmed this, adding that Capcom is also exploring the development of a dedicated PC benchmarking tool.

Currently, the recommended specs for 30 FPS at 1080p include an Nvidia GTX 1660 Super or AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT, requiring a 720p internal resolution and upscaling via DLSS or FSR at the lowest graphics settings.

For 60 FPS at 1080p with upscaling and frame generation technologies, Capcom suggests an RTX 2070 Super, RTX 4060, or AMD RX 6700 XT. Note that only the RTX 4060 supports Nvidia Frame Generation; the others rely on FSR 3, which exhibited ghosting artifacts in the previous beta.

Targeting 60 FPS with frame generation isn't optimal; Digital Foundry suggests a 40 FPS baseline for third-person games. Sub-60 FPS performance with upscaling can lead to noticeable latency and reduced responsiveness.

The open beta highlighted performance issues, even for mid-range cards like the RTX 3060, particularly a low-level-of-detail (LOD) bug affecting texture loading for characters and monsters.

Monster Hunter Wilds utilizes Capcom's RE Engine, previously seen in titles like Resident Evil 7, Devil May Cry 5, Monster Hunter Rise, and Street Fighter 6. While generally praised for its performance, the engine has faced challenges in larger open-world games with numerous NPCs and enemies, as seen in Dragon's Dogma 2. This raises concerns about Monster Hunter Wilds' PC performance. Capcom's efforts to lower GPU requirements are therefore crucial for the game's success on PC.
