Guns Undarkness Will Launch Demo At Steam Next Fest
Guns Undarkness is set to captivate gamers with a free demo during the upcoming Steam Next Fest. This project is spearheaded by Shoji Meguro, who has been a pivotal figure at Atlus since 1995, contributing to iconic series such as Shin Megami Tensei and Persona. After transitioning to an independent developer in 2021, Meguro continues to collaborate with Atlus while venturing into new territories. His latest endeavor, a Sci-Fi Stealth Action JRPG, is being published under Kodansha Game Creators Lab.
Guns Undarkness first caught the public eye at Indie Live Expo Winter 2021 and successfully met its Kickstarter goals in 2022. The free demo will be available starting February 24, 2025, during Steam Next Fest, with an early access release slated for later that year.
Inspired by Metal Gear Solid and Persona
According to its Steam page, Guns Undarkness is described as a "turn-based tactical JRPG inspired by games like Metal Gear Solid and Persona." The game is set in the year 2045, on the edge of a world teetering on the brink of collapse. Players assume the role of a member of a private military company, embarking on missions with allies to unravel the world's secrets and save humanity.
The gameplay is divided into two key components: stealth and battle. During stealth sections, players must navigate the environment undetected, which provides a strategic advantage in subsequent battles. These battles are turn-based, where players issue commands to their characters and utilize various firearms to secure victory.
The Guns Undarkness demo will offer approximately 20 minutes of gameplay, including a tutorial on basic controls, the battle system, weapons, and early game strategies. The game is scheduled for an Early Access release in Spring 2025, with an estimated playtime of about 10 hours on PC. While no specific release date has been announced, anticipation for this title continues to build.
