Capcom Launches First-Ever Game Development Competition: A Collaboration for Industry Growth
Capcom is fostering game industry growth through its inaugural Capcom Games Competition, a student-focused tournament promoting industrial-academic collaboration. This initiative aims to invigorate the industry by supporting research at educational institutions and nurturing future talent.
A Collaborative Approach to Game Development
The competition, open to Japanese university, graduate, and vocational school students, challenges teams of up to 20 individuals to create a game within six months. Participants will assume roles mirroring professional game development, gaining hands-on experience with cutting-edge techniques under the guidance of Capcom developers. Winning teams will receive game production support and potential commercialization opportunities.
Utilizing Capcom's RE ENGINE
The competition utilizes Capcom's proprietary RE ENGINE (Reach for the Moon Engine), initially developed for Resident Evil 7: Biohazard in 2017. This powerful engine, continually refined and improved, has powered numerous successful Capcom titles including recent Resident Evil installments, Dragon's Dogma 2, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, and the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds.
Competition Details
The application period runs from December 9, 2024, to January 17, 2025 (unless otherwise stated). Applicants must be at least 18 years old and enrolled in a Japanese educational institution. This unique opportunity provides invaluable experience and potential career advancement for aspiring game developers.
