Paradox Interactive, the renowned publisher behind titles like Cities: Skylines, Crusader Kings, and Stellaris, has officially announced its next grand strategy game: Europa Universalis 5. Following a teaser last week, the game was unveiled with a captivating cinematic trailer today. Developed by Paradox Tinto in Barcelona, Spain—the team that contributed to Europa Universalis 4—the game promises to be a landmark in the series. Although a specific release date has not been revealed, the Europa Universalis 5 Steam page is now live.
According to Paradox, "Challenge your strategic skills over 500 years of history, in Europa Universalis 5, the latest version of the celebrated grand strategy game. Master the arts of war, trade, diplomacy, and government in the largest and most detailed Europa Universalis game ever. Guide the destiny of any of hundreds of nations and societies in a simulated living world of unparalleled depth and complexity." The game has been in development for over five years, tailored with the dedicated Paradox fan in mind. The team has incorporated over a year of public feedback to create what they describe as "the largest and most detailed Europa Universalis game ever made."
Europa Universalis 5's campaign kicks off at the start of the Hundred Years' War in 1337, allowing players to navigate through significant historical events. The game introduces an array of new features, including a larger and more accurate map with hundreds of different societies. A new population-based system, enhanced production and trade mechanisms, and the ability to develop farms, plantations, and factories or engage in trade with neighboring areas are among the highlights. These additions aim to offer players unparalleled freedom to build and manage their nation as they see fit.
Last week's tease hinted at a mysterious and ambitious project, though fans had largely guessed the reveal beforehand. The game promises more detailed diplomacy, a sophisticated economic model, a revised military system, and increased logistical depth, challenging even the most seasoned strategy gamers.
