As anticipation for *Grand Theft Auto 6* continues to build in the absence of new official updates since the release of Trailer 1 in December 2023, former Rockstar Games technical director Obbe Vermeij has shared an intriguing perspective. Having worked on the series up to *GTA IV*, Vermeij suggested that if it were his decision, no further trailers would be released before the game's launch.
“If it was my call I wouldn’t release any additional trailers,” he tweeted. “There is more than enough hype around VI and the element of surprise is going to make the release only bigger as an event.”
His comments come amid a prolonged period of silence from Rockstar Games following the record-breaking debut of *GTA 6 Trailer 1*. Since then, fans have scoured every possible detail—from counting holes in prison netting to analyzing bullet impacts and license plates—for hints about what’s next. One of the most notable theories revolved around lunar phases, which had surprisingly aligned with the announcement date of Trailer 1, though it was later
Could There Be No More Trailers?
While this idea may seem radical, there are indications that Rockstar might indeed hold off on major reveals until closer to the game’s scheduled fall 2025 release. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick hinted at this strategy in past interviews, explaining that the company prefers to maintain mystery and control over marketing timing to sustain excitement and avoid premature saturation.
“We want to maintain the anticipation and the excitement,” Zelnick told Bloomberg. “We do have competitors who will describe their release schedule for years in advance... we found that the better thing to do is to provide marketing materials relatively close to the release window in order to create that excitement on the one hand and balance the excitement with unmet anticipation.”
Rockstar’s Silence Is a Marketing Strategy
Mike York, a former animator at Rockstar New England who worked on *GTA V* and *Red Dead Redemption 2*, echoed this sentiment on his YouTube channel. He believes Rockstar is intentionally staying silent, allowing fan speculation and conspiracy theories to flourish as part of a broader engagement strategy.
“They're reaching and pulling and trying to come up with these really cool theories to decipher when the next trailer will be,” York said. “Specifically Rockstar, they're very secretive about what they do, and this is a really cool tactic because it creates allure and it creates mystery and it creates people talking about it without them having to do anything.”
He added that by not confirming or denying rumors, Rockstar maintains a sense of unpredictability that fuels organic discussion across forums, social media, and content platforms—ultimately keeping interest high without expending marketing resources.
What Does This Mean for GTA 6 Trailer 2?
It remains unclear whether a second trailer will be released at all. However, if history and current statements are any indication, Rockstar may wait until just months before the game’s expected fall 2025 launch to reveal anything substantial. This mirrors how *GTA IV* was handled, where a last-minute delay was announced mere months before its original release date.
“Only at that time did it become clear we were going to miss the deadline,” Vermeij recalled regarding the *GTA IV* delay. “I’m guessing decision-day for VI will be similar. Fingers crossed for Take2’s August earnings report.”
Until then, fans can expect more theories, deep dives into existing footage, and growing impatience as the release window approaches. Whether or not Rockstar follows through with another trailer may ultimately depend on how development progresses in the coming months—and how much longer they’re willing to let the community speculate.
