Final Fantasy 9 25th Anniversary Website Updates
New Character Profiles
Speculation about an FF9 remake has intensified following recent updates to the 25th anniversary website by Square Enix. New profiles for beloved characters such as Zidane, Vivi, Garnet, and Steiner have been introduced, sparking discussions among fans about a possible remake.
The launch of FF9’s 25th anniversary website earlier this year initially fueled these speculations, which were further intensified by a quote from Vivi, the iconic black mage, shared by Square Enix on Twitter.
The latest update features icons of four out of the eight main characters. Clicking these icons reveals brief descriptions accompanied by new artwork crafted by FF9’s character designer, Toshiyuki Itahana, known for his work on the Crystal Chronicles and Chocobo spinoffs. These descriptions encapsulate each character’s role and aspirations within the game's narrative.
While no official confirmation of a remake has been announced, the meticulous attention to detail in this anniversary celebration has led fans to believe that a major announcement could be on the horizon. For now, enthusiasts of FF9 eagerly await further developments.
New Merch Available
Square Enix has also enriched the 25th anniversary collection with new merchandise. Notable items include Garnet’s necklace, a replica of Vivi’s hat, and a set of acrylic standees among others.
Garnet’s Silver Necklace is now open for reservations and is set to be released on November 15, priced at approximately 38,500 yen, or around $260. The wearable replica of Vivi’s hat is also available for pre-order, with a release date of September 6, and it costs about 17,600 yen, or roughly $120.
The FF9 Acrylic Stand Collection offers eight different designs and comes in blind boxes, adding an element of surprise for collectors.
The release of these items, along with the detailed website updates, has only heightened the anticipation for an FF9 remake. Although Square Enix remains silent on the matter, the community's hope for a revitalized journey through Gaia remains strong.
