The excitement surrounding the GTA 6 mapping project has surged following the release of Trailer 2, with a key member of the project, Garza, telling IGN that "it really changes everything for us for the rest of the year." The GTA 6 Mapping Discord, which now boasts nearly 400 members, is abuzz as enthusiasts dive into the wealth of new details provided by the trailer.
"It’s an information overload - it really changes everything for us for the rest of the year," Garza, who manages the Discord server, shared with IGN. "We have so much new content to work on and we’re really just getting started."
The project, which kicked off after the significant September 2022 leaks, aims to create the most accurate map of GTA 6 possible. Until Trailer 2, the team relied on those leaks and the initial Trailer 1 from December 2023. However, the latest map version released by project lead DuPz0r at the end of March is now considered outdated due to the fresh insights from Trailer 2.

Rockstar not only confirmed plot details and characters but also released 70 new GTA 6 screenshots and revealed more about the explorable regions within Leonida, the game's version of Florida. Confirmed locations include Vice City (akin to Miami), the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga, a prominent landmark near the northern border of the state.
The volunteers are meticulously analyzing the trailer to pinpoint the exact locations of everything shown, striving to align the fictional settings with their real-world inspirations. Once completed, DuPz0r will release an updated map, offering fans a clearer picture of what to anticipate when GTA 6 launches in May 2026.
Should Rockstar release additional GTA 6 assets or gameplay footage, the mapping team is prepared to refine their work further. Only upon the game's release will they be able to compare their fan-made map with the actual game to assess their accuracy.

However, the project faces potential legal challenges from Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two. A modder who created a playable version of the GTA 6 map within GTA 5 was forced to stop after receiving a takedown notice from Take-Two in March. When asked about his concerns regarding potential action from Take-Two, Garza expressed "some mild concern."
"This project has been going on for quite some time with no direct disruption to our community," Garza explained. "However, I always keep it into consideration if they intend on communicating with us in the future for any reason. We do not explicitly showcase leaked material in the map, so I do not believe they would take that down in particular. I believe they are aware that this project gathers popularity and interest in the game, since everyone wants to see how the world may look like. This can be one of the reasons why they haven’t done anything, since it’s not too negative. If I were ever in the situation of receiving a cease and desist though, then I would respectfully cease and desist. As we get closer to a precise map, it may be possible to receive that notice in the future."
As we await further developments, stay tuned for more on GTA 6, including all the details we’ve discovered so far and all the GTA 6 fan theories emerging from Trailer 2 itself.
