"Guide: Defeating and Capturing Quematrice in Monster Hunter Wilds"

Author : Stella May 17,2025

Facing the formidable Quematrice in *Monster Hunter Wilds* can be daunting, especially with its fiery breath threatening to char you and snatch your meat. But don't worry, brave hunter, we're here to guide you through the process of not just defeating, but also capturing this beast. We'll delve into its weaknesses, effective strategies, attacks to watch out for, and the best methods to triumph over the Quematrice.

How to Beat Quematrice in Monster Hunter Wilds

The Quematrice, a giant chicken-like creature reminiscent of the Cockatrice, fortunately opts for fire over petrification. As a mid-sized monster, it's vulnerable to most weapons, though its area-based attacks might make ranged weapons a safer choice for less confident hunters.

When it comes to its attacks, be wary of the tail strikes and sweeps, which can deal significant damage. The tail slam, in particular, is a heavy hitter when you're positioned behind it. The Quematrice lifts its tail high before slamming it down, so sidestepping or blocking can save you from harm. However, the real danger lies in its fire-based attacks, which not only cause immediate damage but can also ignite you, leading to continuous health drain, and set the ground ablaze.

These fire attacks are tricky to anticipate. The Quematrice might rear its head and roar before spewing flames from its tail in a frontal assault. It can also perform a sweeping fire attack after a similar roar and head lift, affecting everything around it. Another variation includes a charging move where it runs towards you, turning at the last moment to unleash fire. If you're using ranged weapons, start moving backward as soon as you see these moves to avoid the flames.

How to Capture Quematrice in Monster Hunter Wilds

Capturing the Quematrice requires the right equipment: a Shock Trap and a Pitfall Trap, along with at least two Tranq Bombs. While one trap is technically sufficient, having a backup is crucial in *Monster Hunter* games, especially if the monster escapes or another creature triggers it.

Once the Quematrice is sufficiently weakened and starts limping, or you notice the skull icon appearing and disappearing on the mini-map, it's time to set your trap. For a smoother capture, wait until the monster moves to a new area after limping away. Place your trap, lure the Quematrice into it, and then throw two Tranq Bombs to secure your capture.
