What's better than a cyberpunk action RPG? How about an action RPG on a motorcycle? Okay, maybe it's not that different, but how else would you describe something as odd, bright, colorful, and just plain anime as the upcoming release from Tencent's Fizzglee studio, Kaleidorider?
At a glance, you can probably guess a few things about Kaleidorider. It's set in the near-future city of Terminus, which is being plagued by interdimensional invaders called the Integration from an alternate dimension known as the Sea of Unconsciousness. Naturally, the only thing that can stop them is the titular Kaleidoriders.
This motorcycle-riding cavalcade of girls (because, of course, they're mainly girls) naturally can't do it alone, and they'll need the help of a relatively normal human with Kaleido Vision to find and battle the Hysteria creatures created by the Integration. That's where you come in.
Kiss, kiss fall in love Yes, it's hard not to look at Kaleidorider and see something that's wearing its anime influences quite prominently on its sleeve. Be it the flashy clothing, self-described Doki-Doki (romance) plotline, or just the very over-the-top action you can see, this is very much your standard romance-action anime come to life.
At the same time, that's not necessarily me knocking the idea. In the trailer alone, we can see plenty of that aforementioned action, and with lavish 3D graphics, fancy effects, and the admittedly quite intriguing integration of the motorcycles as a core mechanic, if your kind of thing is kitschy action, then Kaleidorider will almost certainly be for you.
But while you wait to see if Kaleidorider is worth it when it does hit storefronts, why not go Off the AppStore and check out some top releases you can only get on third-party alternatives? This week, Will dug into QuickVenture to see what this action RPG has to offer.
