Keanu Reeves has delivered an exciting update for fans eagerly awaiting a sequel to the 2005 cult classic, *Constantine*. In a recent interview with Inverse, Reeves shared that after over a decade of trying, a story pitch for *Constantine 2* was finally approved by DC Studios. "We've been trying to make this film for over a decade, and we just recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios and they said, 'Okay,'" Reeves revealed. The next step? Writing the script.
John Constantine, the occult detective and exorcist from DC Comics, was brought to life by Reeves following his success with *The Matrix*. The original film has garnered a dedicated following over the past 20 years, with fans and Reeves himself expressing a strong desire for a sequel.
However, while the news is promising, there's no guarantee that *Constantine 2* will move forward. DC Studios co-chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran have not yet confirmed the project as part of the rebooted DCU. Despite this uncertainty, Reeves assured fans that if *Constantine 2* does get made, it will be set in "the same world" as the original, with the character facing even more torment. "John Constantine's going to be tortured even more," Reeves quipped.
Adding to the anticipation, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura shared in a September interview with ComicBook that a script for *Constantine 2* is already in his inbox. However, he admitted to being "too scared to read it" due to his high hopes for the project. "You know it's in my inbox right now, funny enough," he said. "I'm too scared to read it, though, I want it to be good so bad. I’ll probably read it in the next few days, when I get on an airplane."
