As you start the mission, focus on capturing the four enemy bases located in the bottom right of the map. After securing two bases, a cutscene will trigger, introducing a mounted cavalry led by Zhang Liao. Continue your assault undeterred; you’ll naturally encounter and defeat these cavalry units as you progress. Defeating Zhang Liao will reward you with the twin pike weapon, a valuable addition to your arsenal.
With all bases under your control, you can now launch an assault on Hulao Gate. This initiates a fierce battle against Dong Zhuo's forces. Amidst the chaos, prioritize protecting Cao Cao until he can execute his Grand Tactic. Once activated, Cao Cao's strategy will weaken the enemy's defenses, allowing you to advance further toward the gate.
Lu Bu Appears
At this critical juncture, Dong Zhuo deploys Lu Bu to the frontline. It’s crucial to avoid engaging Lu Bu directly; a one-on-one fight with him is nearly impossible to win. Instead, focus on eliminating enemy officers on the outskirts to maintain your morale, which Lu Bu’s presence severely undermines.
Lu Bu will eventually move to attack your main base and confront Yuan Shao. Resist the urge to chase him; remember the golden rule of *Dynasty Warriors*: do not pursue Lu Bu. Liu Bei and his forces will attempt to delay Lu Bu, giving you a window to focus on defeating Dong Zhuo. This sets a timer for the mission. Go After Dong Zhuo

With all three squads ready and your health restored, enter the closest commander’s circle and charge into battle.
You'll face a massive army, and Dong Zhuo will unleash a Grand Tactic involving fireballs. Your immediate goal is to destroy the two front catapults. If possible, activate Musou Rage to break through the wall of soldiers guarding the catapults. After clearing a path, focus on defeating the soldiers and officers around the catapults and barricades, allowing your forces to destroy them and end Dong Zhuo's Grand Tactic.
As you advance, Dong Zhuo will initiate another Grand Tactic. This time, you must defeat one of his officers to stop it. Ascend the right stairs to confront this officer, but be ready for an ambush by Diaochan, who has sided with Dong Zhuo. If feasible, duel Diaochan to avoid being overwhelmed by fighting both her and the officer simultaneously.
With the second Grand Tactic neutralized, a clear path to Dong Zhuo should emerge. Your forces, bolstered by high morale, will be able to decimate his remaining troops. Even if tempted to duel Dong Zhuo, it’s best to defeat him conventionally as his forces will be significantly weakened by now.
