Microsoft has teamed up with AMD to develop future generations of Xbox consoles and cloud gaming solutions, including upcoming first-party Xbox hardware.

"We're excited to announce our collaboration with AMD to co-engineer silicon for next-generation Xbox devices, including new consoles," Microsoft stated in an online announcement.

While specific details remain undisclosed, Microsoft pledged "unparalleled performance, revolutionary graphics, innovative gameplay, and complete backward compatibility" with existing Xbox game libraries.

"Our multi-year partnership with AMD focuses on creating custom chipsets for our next-gen Xbox consoles and beyond," Microsoft explained.

"This collaboration will deliver richer visuals, more immersive gaming experiences, and advanced AI capabilities—all built on an open platform that preserves your current game collection."

Xbox president Sarah Bond revealed in a video that Microsoft is investing in "next-gen hardware spanning consoles, handheld devices, PCs, cloud gaming, and accessories."

The announcement confirms Microsoft's commitment to both traditional Xbox consoles and handheld gaming devices, though specific launch dates weren't provided. Bond hinted, "We're eager to reveal what's coming next."

Earlier reports suggested Microsoft aims to launch both next-gen Xbox consoles and handheld devices by 2027. These systems are expected to offer PC-like flexibility, potentially supporting third-party storefronts including Steam and Epic Games Store.

Bond's statements reinforce this direction: "We're creating a unified gaming platform that travels with you, ensuring access to your games across devices without being restricted to specific stores or hardware."

"Our close collaboration with the Windows team ensures gaming remains at the forefront of the PC experience," Bond added.

In the near future, Microsoft plans to introduce Xbox-branded hardware like the Windows 11-based Xbox Ally handheld PC, anticipated to launch later this year.
