Nintendo has recently announced the upgrade costs for transitioning two popular titles from their original Nintendo Switch versions to the enhanced Nintendo Switch 2 editions: Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree. The price tag for these upgrades is notably higher than expected.
For comparison, upgrading The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom from the original Switch to the Switch 2 Edition costs $9.99 each. However, NintendoLife has reported that the upgrades for Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree are more than double this amount per game.
The Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Edition of Breath of the Wild boasts improved visuals and performance, achievements, and integration with the new "Zelda Notes" service available through the Nintendo Switch Online app. Owners of the original Switch version of Breath of the Wild can access these enhancements by purchasing an "upgrade pack" for $10.
The Switch 2 Edition of Kirby and the Forgotten Land includes new story content in the Star-Crossed World. Meanwhile, the Switch 2 Edition of Super Mario Party Jamboree introduces Jamboree TV, a new suite of content utilizing the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, Switch 2 microphone, and the Switch 2 USB-C camera (sold separately). These editions also offer upgraded resolution up to 1440p in TV mode, improved frame rates, new minigames, and enhanced online functionalities.
Although U.S. prices are not yet listed on the American Nintendo eShop—potentially due to uncertainties surrounding President Trump's tariffs—the UK Nintendo eShop lists the Kirby and the Forgotten Land upgrade pack at £16.99 / €19.99, which is significantly more than the £7.99 / €9.99 charged for upgrading either Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom.
Similarly, the Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV upgrade is priced at £16.99 / €19.99, suggesting a U.S. price of $19.99 for both games. This higher upgrade cost may be influenced by the elevated price points of the full Switch 2 Editions, which are set at $79.99 each, compared to their original Switch counterparts at $59.99.
For those opting not to upgrade, here are the costs of the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games in the U.S.:
- Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World - $79.99
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $69.99
- Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV - $79.99
- The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $79.99
It's worth noting that subscribers to Nintendo Switch Online and the Expansion Pack can upgrade both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom at no additional cost. Unfortunately, no such offer exists for upgrading Kirby or Super Mario Party Jamboree.
Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders began on April 24, with the console priced at $449.99. The high demand led Nintendo to warn U.S. customers that pre-order delivery on the release date was not guaranteed. For more information on securing your Switch 2, check out IGN's Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.
