The long-awaited details about Nintendo's rumored Nintendo Switch upgrade have finally been unveiled, and the results are more impressive than many anticipated. The Nintendo Switch 2 supports up to 120fps and can display in 4K resolution when docked, surpassing expectations and setting a new standard for handheld gaming.
During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo provided a detailed look at the new system. The Nintendo Switch 2 boasts a larger 7.9-inch screen compared to its predecessor, yet maintains the same thickness of 13.9mm. With approximately double the pixels, it supports a 1080p resolution in handheld mode at up to 120fps, featuring an LCD screen with HDR capabilities. When docked, it can also handle 4K resolution with HDR.The new Joy-Con 2 controllers feature a magnetic connection and can be detached with a release button on the back. The SL and SR buttons on the side are larger, enhancing playability in horizontal mode, and the left and right sticks have also been upsized. Additionally, this segment confirmed the inclusion of mouse control support in the Joy-Con controllers.
The handheld version of the Nintendo Switch 2 is equipped with a built-in microphone featuring noise-canceling technology and supports 3D audio for compatible games. It also includes a more robust and adjustable stand compared to the original Nintendo Switch, allowing for various height settings. A top USB port enables external camera connectivity and can charge the system while in tabletop mode.
