Nintendo has issued a warning to its U.S. fans about the highly anticipated release of the Switch 2. The company announced that it may struggle to meet the demand for the console, mirroring the challenges it faced in Japan. An update on Nintendo's website informed fans who registered their interest in purchasing a Switch 2 from the My Nintendo Store that delivery by the June 5 release date cannot be guaranteed. As a result, invitation emails to purchase the console may arrive after the Switch 2's launch, although Nintendo will confirm the shipping date upon purchase.
Nintendo expressed gratitude to those who have shown enthusiasm for the Nintendo Switch 2, acknowledging the high demand and their commitment to fulfilling orders as soon as possible. However, they emphasized that delivery by the launch date is not guaranteed. For those eager to secure a Switch 2 at launch, Nintendo suggested pre-ordering through third-party retailers, although units are already sold out at places like GameStop. Those willing to wait for an invitation from My Nintendo Store need take no further action after registering their interest.

The struggle to pre-order the Switch 2 on April 24, combined with Nintendo's warning, indicates that obtaining the next-gen console around its launch will be challenging. Earlier, Nintendo warned its Japanese customers that a significant number would miss out on direct pre-orders due to overwhelming demand. In Japan alone, 2.2 million people applied for a pre-order from the My Nintendo Store, far exceeding Nintendo's expectations and available stock for the launch date.
According to Nintendo's FAQ, the first batch of invitation emails for the My Nintendo Store in the U.S. will be sent starting May 8, 2025, with additional batches sent periodically until purchasing is open to everyone. These initial emails will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis to eligible registrants meeting specific priority criteria. Invitees will have 72 hours from the time the email is sent to complete their purchase.
To qualify for a priority invitation, customers must have purchased a Nintendo Switch Online membership, maintained it for at least 12 months, and opted into sharing gameplay data with at least 50 hours of total gameplay.
Last week, Nintendo confirmed that Switch 2 pre-orders in the U.S. would begin on April 24, 2025, with the console's price set at $449.99 and a launch date of June 5. The Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle will remain at $499.99, and the prices for both the physical and digital versions of Mario Kart World ($79.99) and Donkey Kong Bananza ($69.99) will stay the same at launch. However, Nintendo has increased the prices of Switch 2 accessories due to ongoing tariff issues.
Originally, Nintendo planned to open pre-orders on April 9, but delayed them to assess the potential impact of tariffs and market conditions. For those interested in pre-ordering a Nintendo Switch 2, along with accessories and games, staying updated through Nintendo's pre-order guide is recommended.
