Pokémon TCG Vending Machines: A Fan's Guide

Pokémon fans are buzzing about the appearance of Pokémon vending machines across the US! These aren't your average snack dispensers; they offer a convenient way to snag Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) merchandise. This guide answers your burning questions.

What are Pokémon Vending Machines?

These automated machines dispense a range of Pokémon TCG products, similar to buying a drink, albeit at a potentially higher price. While various types have existed, the current US focus is on TCG-centric models initially tested in Washington in 2017. Their success led to expansion across numerous grocery store chains.

The machines are visually appealing, showcasing bright colors and clear Pokémon branding. They feature touchscreens for easy browsing and selection of TCG items, allowing for credit card purchases. The experience is enhanced with charming Pokémon animations. A digital receipt is emailed after purchase, but returns are not accepted.

What do they sell?

Primarily, US Pokémon vending machines stock Pokémon TCG products such as Elite Trainer Boxes, Booster Packs, and related items. Stock levels vary, but a recent check found a good selection even during a busy holiday shopping period. Unlike some earlier models, these machines generally don't sell plush toys, apparel, or video games.

How to find one near you:

A complete list of active US Pokémon TCG vending machines is available on the official Pokémon Center website. Currently, machines are located in several states, including Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Nevada, Ohio, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin. The website allows you to filter by state to locate nearby machines within partner grocery stores like Albertsons, Fred Meyer, Fry's, Kroger, Pick 'n Save, Safeway, Smith's, and Tom Thumb. Note that distribution tends to be concentrated in specific cities within each state. You can also follow the Pokémon Center's location list for updates on new machine installations.
