Former developers from The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 at Rebel Wolves have introduced their new project, The Blood of Dawnwalker. Although the game isn't aiming for the full scale of a AAA title, the team's ambitions remain sky-high. Rebel Wolves' founder, Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, shared that the studio is striving for the quality seen in The Witcher 3, albeit on a more contained scale:
"We want AAA quality, like The Witcher 3—that’s our heritage. But as a small studio on our first project, we’re creating something more compact yet just as polished."
The Blood of Dawnwalker is expected to offer a 30-40 hour playthrough, prompting Tomaszkiewicz to question the importance of game size in defining a AAA experience:
"Comparing anything to The Witcher 3, which was meant to last 100+ hours but often exceeded 200-300 hours, is crazy. But is size what makes a game AAA? Call of Duty is AAA without a massive campaign. So, does scale really matter?"
Tomaszkiewicz also dismissed industry labels like "AAA" and "AAAA" as meaningless, emphasizing quality over categorization.
In The Blood of Dawnwalker, players take on the role of a half-vampire with a critical mission to save their loved ones within a tight timeframe of 30 days and 30 nights. Despite the time limit, the game promises a seamless experience. Developed on Unreal Engine 5, The Blood of Dawnwalker is set to launch on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, though a specific release date has yet to be announced.
