Shift Up, the developer behind the action-packed game Stellar Blade, has just reported a financially record-breaking year. Stellar Blade alone generated an impressive $43 million in royalties, contributing significantly to the company's overall revenue. According to the 2024 financial report released by Shift Up, as cited by Game World Observer, the company achieved a total revenue of $151.4 million, marking a substantial 30.4% increase from the previous year.
The success story of Stellar Blade doesn't seem to be winding down anytime soon. Shift Up is optimistic about the upcoming PC version of the game, expecting it to surpass the sales of the original PlayStation 5 release, particularly in the lucrative Asian gaming market. This anticipated success comes as the company also plans to unveil its next project, Project Witches, in the first half of 2025. Although Project Witches was announced shortly after Stellar Blade's PS5 launch in 2024, it isn't the sequel fans might have been hoping for. However, Shift Up has expressed interest in developing another game within the Stellar Blade franchise.
In Stellar Blade, players assume the role of Eve, embarking on a thrilling mission to reclaim Earth from mysterious invaders through fast-paced action RPG combat. The game received a 7/10 from IGN, reflecting its strengths as an action game while pointing out areas for improvement such as character development, storyline, and certain RPG mechanics. Despite these critiques, Stellar Blade quickly achieved a milestone by selling one million copies, underscoring its popularity among gamers.
"Stellar Blade is great in all of the most important ways for an action game, but dull characters, a lackluster story, and several frustrating elements of its RPG mechanics prevent it from soaring along with the best of the genre," IGN's review stated.
