Ubisoft is setting sail to make Skull and Bones Year 2 the most expansive and thrilling year yet for the pirate multiplayer game, with a slew of exciting new features, including new modes, ships, a legendary Kraken, and the much-anticipated land combat that fans have been clamoring for since the game's launch.
During a special Year 2 showcase that premiered yesterday, Ubisoft unveiled its treasure trove of plans for the upcoming year. The presentation was brimming with content to anticipate, but it's Season 3: Guts and Glory that promises to bring the long-awaited land combat feature. Set to launch this fall, Season 3 will allow players to step away from the sea and engage in sword fights and gunfights on land. This exciting addition is part of the Rogue Warlord update, where players will explore sandy beaches and damp caves to rescue skilled Officers. A teaser video gave a glimpse of what's to come, but we'll have to wait until later this year to see it in action.
While land combat is the headline feature of Skull and Bones Year 2, the showcase revealed a host of other additions to keep players engaged throughout 2025. Season 1, Ascent into Chaos, launches today, April 15, introducing a new item ascension feature to enhance loot, challenging World Tiers, a new Schooner medium ship, and the team-based Death Tides PvP mode. Season 2: Oaths of War, slated for summer 2025, will bring Megaforts and the massive Frigate large ships. Finally, Season 4: Eye of the Beast, set for this winter, will introduce the Kraken, the Hunter’s Guild, and the Corvette large ship.
If you're tempted by what you've heard, you're in luck. Skull and Bones will offer a free weekend from April 17 – 21, giving players a chance to experience pirate PvP firsthand and purchase the game at a discounted price (the specifics of which are yet to be revealed).
Skull and Bones launched on February 16, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S, earning a 7/10 in our review. Although Ubisoft has been tight-lipped about official sales figures, they did mention achieving "record player engagement" shortly after release. Interestingly, the launch of Skull and Bones also saw a 200% surge in players for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.
