On April 9, Sega took to Twitter (X) to announce that Sonic Rumble will launch worldwide on May 8, 2025. Accompanying the announcement is a captivating new trailer that provides a glimpse into the game's vibrant world and dynamic gameplay.Sonic Rumble marks the series' first foray into multiplayer party gaming, allowing up to 32 players to compete in diverse levels and challenges. Sega describes the game as, "Players control a character from the Sonic series as they navigate a toy world crafted by the villainous Dr. Eggman, tackling treacherous obstacle courses and hazardous arenas!"
Given its free-to-play model, there were initial concerns about potential pay-to-win elements. However, Sonic Rumble Director Makoto Tase addressed these worries during an interview with Automaton at the Tokyo Game Show 2024 in September 2024. He stated, "We’re aiming for a casual system where players can purchase exactly what they want for a small, fixed price, steering clear of a gacha system with randomized item acquisition."
