The boys are back in town — and by the boys, we're talking about Stan, Kyle, Kenny, and Cartman. South Park has officially announced the much-anticipated return for Season 27, and it seems our favorite Colorado crew is tackling the state of things in their signature, barely-coping style.
A new trailer for the upcoming season was released, cleverly leading the audience to believe it was a sneak peek at a new dramatic series. The trailer's intense editing and ominous music set the stage... until Randy, Stan's dad, and his sister Shelley appear. Randy, sitting with Shelley on her bed in front of a Wicked movie poster, asks her if she's been taking drugs, adding, "Because I think it could really help you."
South Park Season 27 is set to premiere on Wednesday, July 9th. After the initial gag, the trailer shifts back to intense action, hinting at several major and topical events for the season. These include multiple plane crashes, the toppling of the Statue of Liberty, an appearance by P. Diddy, and yet another war with Canada. Longtime fans, or even those who've seen the 1999 film South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut, won't be surprised by the latter.
The teaser also confirms that Season 27 will debut on July 9, 2025, on Comedy Central, more than two years following the conclusion of Season 26. In the interim, the series has aired three specials: South Park: Joining the Panderverse and South Park (Not Suitable For Children) in 2023, and South Park: The End of Obesity in 2024.
South Park marked its 25th anniversary in 2022, having first aired on Comedy Central in 1997 to immediate critical acclaim.
