The creator of Stardew Valley, Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone, has hinted at the possibility of developing a sequel, tentatively named "Stardew Valley 2." However, he tempered fans' excitement by explaining in an interview with TigerBelly that it's far simpler to enhance the existing game than to start anew. Barone pointed out that all the major systems in Stardew Valley are already established, making updates like the whimsical addition of "green rain" much more manageable and enjoyable to implement.
"I might eventually make a Stardew Valley 2, to be honest," Barone confessed, as reported by Nintendo Life. Despite this, he is currently channeling his creative energies into his upcoming project, Haunted Chocolatier. Barone expressed a desire not to be pigeonholed as solely "the Stardew Valley guy," which fuels his motivation for this new venture. He cautioned that fans shouldn't hold their breath for a release date for Haunted Chocolatier anytime soon, citing that there's "still a lot to be done" and his ambition for the game to surpass the quality of Stardew Valley.
Our original review of Stardew Valley back in 2016 scored it an impressive 8.8, labeling it as "Great." Fast forward to 2024, and upon revisiting the game, we elevated our rating to a perfect 10/10, dubbing it a "masterpiece." We noted, "Stardew Valley is not only the best farming game I’ve played, it is one of my favorite games of all time. That myself and others keep returning to this eight-year-old gem each time it gets even the smallest update speaks to how it’s truly a masterpiece in the genre it both reinvigorated and has come to define."
