Tides of Annihilation, drawing inspiration from Arthurian legend, casts players as Gwendolyn, a young woman battling alongside spectral knights to rescue her family and mend a fractured world.
The game unfolds in a ravaged, modern-day London, overrun by a mysterious otherworldly invasion. Gwendolyn and her team confront relentless enemy hordes, primarily colossal, roaming knights, demanding intense, acrobatic combat requiring players to scale and engage these towering foes.
While visually impressive, the game's narrative falls short. Recent soulslike games have successfully reimagined classic tales – the Western unfamiliarity with "Journey to the West" and the unexpected twist on Pinocchio in Lies of P are prime examples. However, Tides of Annihilation's King Arthur premise feels overused, lacking the unique selling point that its stunning visuals alone cannot provide.
