When it comes to mecha, Japan stands head and shoulders above the rest as pioneers of the genre. With two key iterations, real robot and super robot, the country has deeply influenced this field. Now, My.Games' War Robots is set to team up with veteran designer Kunio Okawara for an exclusive in-game design!
Okawara's work is most recognizable for his creation of the iconic Gundam, in collaboration with writer Yoshiyuki Tomino. This instantly recognizable mascot of the real robot genre has appeared in numerous series over the years, including hit Hollywood films such as Ready Player One.
Soon, you'll have the chance to pilot an original creation from Kunio Okawara himself. The SWORD Unit 190, developed in-universe by the DSC Corporation, comes equipped with optional drones and plasma guns designed by Okawara.
Real steel - You'll need to wait a little before getting your hands on the new SWORD unit. However, it's set to take a starring role in the upcoming MECHA Raider S.W.O.R.D event, happening from May 20th to June 1st. This event offers a full throwback to the real robot genre.
It's clear why the team at War Robots chose to collaborate with Okawara. Even if you're not familiar with his prior work, this new design promises to be an exciting and vivid addition to your arsenal.
