Nintendo has officially confirmed that the Switch 2 version of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will indeed support cloud saves, putting an end to recent speculations. Earlier reports from IGN highlighted a worrying disclaimer on Nintendo's website suggesting that this much-anticipated title might not include the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership’s Save Data Cloud backup feature. However, Nintendo has since updated the information on their site, clarifying the situation.
Originally, the disclaimer for Tears of the Kingdom's Switch 2 edition stated: "Please note: this software does not support the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership’s Save Data Cloud backup feature." This had led to concerns among fans about the availability of cloud saves for this game. In a surprising turn of events, while Donkey Kong Bananza's page has completely removed any mention of cloud saves, the disclaimer for Tears of the Kingdom has been revised to read: "Save data created in the second save data slot in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition cannot be transferred to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on Nintendo Switch."
This updated disclaimer should reassure Switch 2 owners, indicating that players will be able to transfer their old Switch 1 saves of Tears of the Kingdom to the new Switch 2 devices. However, it's important to note that transferring saves from the Switch 2 back to the original Switch system will not be possible, as reported by Eurogamer.
Similarly, the page for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition now includes the same message, suggesting that Nintendo is applying a consistent approach to save data transfers across their enhanced Switch 2 titles.
Amidst these updates, pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 went live overnight, maintaining the price at $449.99. As expected, the demand was high. For more details on securing your own Switch 2, check out IGN's comprehensive Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.
