Final Fantasy 14 Stops Automatic Housing Demolition Shortly After Restarting It

Final Fantasy XIV Suspends Housing Demolitions Due to LA Wildfires

Square Enix has temporarily halted automatic housing demolitions in Final Fantasy XIV on North American servers due to the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles. This affects players on the Aether, Primal, Crystal, and Dynamis data centers. The company will announce a resumption date once the situation is assessed.

The automated demolition system, which runs a 45-day timer on unoccupied plots, is a standard practice to manage the limited housing availability within the game. The timer resets when a homeowner logs in, incentivizing player engagement. However, Square Enix regularly pauses this system in response to real-world events impacting player accessibility, such as the recent wildfires and prior disruptions caused by Hurricane Helene.

This latest suspension began on January 9th, just one day after the previous moratorium ended. While the company initially planned to resume demolitions, the LA wildfires prompted an immediate pause. Homeowners can still reset their timers by visiting their properties.

Final Fantasy XIV Halts Automated Housing Demolitions Following Recent Restart

  • Automatic housing demolitions are paused on Aether, Primal, Crystal, and Dynamis data centers in Final Fantasy XIV.
  • The decision stems from the ongoing Los Angeles wildfires.
  • This pause follows a three-month moratorium that concluded just a day prior.
  • Square Enix will provide updates on the resumption of the demolition timers.

Square Enix expressed concern for players affected by the wildfires, highlighting the broader impact of the disaster. Other events impacted include a postponement of the Critical Role Campaign 3 finale and the relocation of an NFL playoff game.

The beginning of 2025 has been eventful for Final Fantasy XIV players, with this housing demolition pause and the return of a free login campaign. The duration of this latest suspension remains uncertain.
