Author : Charlotte Jan 05,2025

Experience the nostalgic joy of couch co-op gaming with Minecraft! This guide shows you how to easily set up split-screen multiplayer on your Xbox One or other compatible console. Gather your friends, grab some snacks, and let's get started!

Important Considerations:

Minecraft split-screen is exclusively a console feature. PC players, unfortunately, are excluded from this local multiplayer fun. Ensure your TV or monitor supports at least 720p HD resolution, and that your console is capable of outputting this resolution. HDMI connection is recommended for automatic resolution adjustment; VGA users may need to manually configure resolution settings on their console.

Local Split-Screen Gameplay:

Minecraft allows for both local and online split-screen experiences. Local split-screen supports up to four players on a single console – just make sure everyone gets a fair shot at the controller!

  1. Connect your console: Use an HDMI cable for optimal performance.
  2. Launch Minecraft: Create a new world or load an existing one. Crucially, disable the multiplayer option in the game's settings for local split-screen.
  3. Configure your world: Set difficulty, game rules, and world generation parameters as desired. Skip this if loading a pre-existing world.
  4. Start the game: Once loaded, press the button to add additional players. (This is typically the "Options" button on PlayStation or the "Start" button on Xbox; consult your console's manual if unsure).
  5. Add players: Each player needs to log into their account to join the game. The screen will automatically split into sections (2-4 players).
  6. Enjoy! Get ready for some collaborative Minecraft adventures.

Online Multiplayer with Local Split-Screen:

While you can't directly split-screen with online players, you can combine local split-screen with online multiplayer. Follow the same steps as above, but enable the multiplayer option before starting the game. Then, send invitations to your online friends to join your session.

Minecraft's split-screen functionality makes it a fantastic cooperative experience. Enjoy building, exploring, and adventuring with friends right from your couch!
