Gacha mechanics are a fundamental part of Honkai Star Rail, and developer HoYoverse appears to be giving players greater influence over their summons. Recent leaks indicate that major updates to the banner system are planned for version 3.2, introducing a new way for players to engage with the game’s gacha elements.
Insider information from Sakura Haven suggests the version 3.2 update will bring a customizable pity system to limited banners. Rather than being restricted to the standard character pool for 50/50 pity pulls, players will reportedly be able to choose their preferred characters from a limited selection. These selected characters can partially or fully replace the default pool, offering players more control over the rewards they receive.

Currently, the 50/50 pity pool consists of seven standard characters. Starting with version 3.2, this will be replaced by a customizable “Group.” Players will choose seven characters from this Group to form their personalized pity pool. This means that when a 50/50 roll is lost, the player will receive a character from their own customized selection instead of the default lineup.
The initial Group is expected to include the seven standard characters, plus a limited number of additional characters to choose from.
This update promises to improve the player experience by lowering frustration and increasing flexibility. By letting players customize their pity pool, HoYoverse is tackling a frequent complaint about gacha systems: the unpredictability of failed pity rolls. Giving players the ability to target specific characters will improve their chances of obtaining units that match their preferred strategies or collecting goals.
However, it is still unclear which characters will be available in the selectable pool. There is speculation about whether it will include past limited characters, current banner units, or even new additions.
These planned changes reflect HoYoverse's ongoing commitment to polishing Honkai Star Rail and making it more player-centric. Introducing a customizable pity system highlights the growing emphasis on player agency in gacha games—a move that could influence future designs across the genre.
Although the final implementation and overall impact are yet to be confirmed, the news has already generated considerable excitement within the community. Fans are looking forward to experiencing these changes firsthand when Honkai Star Rail version 3.2 is released.
