Marvel Rivals Reverses Controversial Mid-Season Rank Reset Decision
Following significant player backlash, Marvel Rivals has reversed its decision to implement mid-season rank resets. The developer announced the change in Dev Talk 11, a swift response to the negative reception of Dev Talk 10, which detailed plans to reset player ranks by four divisions midway through the season.
The initial proposal of a 45-day (half-season) rank reset was met with criticism from players who felt it was overly punitive and discouraged climbing the ranks. In a complete turnaround, Marvel Rivals confirmed that there will be no mid-season rank reset. Players will retain their existing ranks and scores from the first half of the season. However, the end-of-season rank reset, dropping players six divisions, remains in place.
Other Planned Updates Remain
Despite the rank reset reversal, other updates are still on track. The highly anticipated addition of Human Torch and The Thing, bringing the total roster to 39 heroes, is proceeding as scheduled. NetEase Games continues its commitment to releasing two new playable characters per three-month season.
Rewards for players reaching Gold rank and above remain unchanged, with a free Invisible Woman costume for Gold rank and above, and Crests of Honor for Grandmaster rank and above. Additional end-of-season rewards, including another free costume and Crests of Honor for Grandmaster and above, are also planned. Balance adjustments are also expected following the mid-season update, though specifics are yet to be revealed.
Community Feedback Heeded
Marvel Rivals highlighted its responsiveness to player feedback, emphasizing its commitment to community engagement. The rapid reversal of the mid-season rank reset decision within hours of the initial announcement demonstrates the developer's willingness to listen to player concerns.
The mid-season update is scheduled for release on February 21, 2025. Marvel Rivals is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
