"Switch 2 to Sell Out at Launch, Analysts Say; June Release Eyed"

Author : Lillian May 06,2025

The price of the Nintendo Switch 2 has become a focal point of discussion within the video game community. Analysts have shared with IGN their expectation that Nintendo’s next-generation console will launch at a price point of $400. This expectation is further supported by a recent Bloomberg report, which cites Japan-focused analysts predicting a similar price range. This would mark a notable increase from the original Nintendo Switch's launch price.

However, there's a buzz that Nintendo might push the price even higher, potentially up to $499, according to another analyst cited by Bloomberg. Despite the potential increase, there's a strong consensus among analysts that the Nintendo Switch 2 is poised for a colossal launch, possibly setting records as the biggest console launch ever, regardless of its final price tag. As Tokyo analyst Serkan Toto mentioned to Bloomberg, "They will sell boatloads of Switch 2 in the first months in particular, almost regardless of the price."

The anticipated success of the Switch 2 during its launch period is largely due to the expected demand for its impressive lineup of launch titles. Serkan Toto predicts the release of a new Mario Kart, hinted at by Nintendo during the Switch 2 reveal, a new 3D Mario game, as well as the already announced Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4, all set to launch within the Switch 2’s first year. Additionally, Toto expects robust third-party support, including titles like Call of Duty from Activision.

A plethora of rumored third-party titles are expected to grace the console. In an interview with IGN, Civilization 7 developer Firaxis expressed intrigue about the Switch 2's Joy-Con mouse mode. French gaming company Nacon, known for games like Greedfall 2, Test Drive Unlimited, and RoboCop: Rogue City, has stated they have Switch 2 games ready to launch. The highly anticipated Hollow Knight: Silksong is also rumored to be coming to the Switch 2. Moreover, last month, EA confirmed that titles like Madden, FC, and The Sims would be well-suited for the Switch 2.

It's important to note that Activision has not yet announced its plans for the Switch 2, and Nintendo has remained silent on the Bloomberg report.

Speculation suggests a June 2025 release for the Switch 2, with this date frequently mentioned both online and within gaming media circles. Analyst Robin Zhu of Sanford C. Bernstein told Bloomberg that the Switch 2 is expected to launch in June, with an initial inventory of 6-8 million units. If this stock sells out quickly, the Switch 2 could surpass the sales records of its predecessor and the PlayStation 4 and 5.

Concerns have arisen regarding the impact of former U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff policies on the pricing of the Nintendo Switch 2. The Trump administration imposed tariffs on goods from China, Canada, and Mexico, leading analysts to warn that these could affect the price and availability of video games, consoles, and other tech products. However, Bloomberg reports that the Switch 2 will be assembled in both Vietnam and China, which, according to one analyst, could mitigate some of these risks for Nintendo due to its diversified manufacturing strategy.

While there's still much we don't know about the Switch 2, Nintendo has planned a Direct presentation for April 2, where more details about the console are expected to be revealed.

How Much Do You Think the Nintendo Switch 2 Will Cost at Launch?

The Nintendo Switch 2 was unveiled earlier in January with a brief trailer that confirmed backwards compatibility features and the addition of a second USB-C port. However, many details, including the full game lineup and the function of the mysterious new Joy-Con button, remain undisclosed. The Joy-Con mouse mode theory has gained significant attention.

Last month, a Nintendo patent hinted that Switch 2’s Joy-Con controllers could be attached upside down. This suggests that the Switch 2 will utilize gyro mechanics in a manner similar to smartphones without screen lock. Unlike the original Nintendo Switch, which used rails to attach Joy-Cons, the new controllers will employ magnets, allowing for more versatile attachment options on either side of the console.

While this change might seem minor from a hardware perspective, it could significantly enhance player customization, allowing users to choose the placement of buttons and ports. If this feature makes it into the final product, it could also introduce innovative gameplay mechanics.
