First Trailer for Woochi the Wayfarer Unveils a Dark Korean Fantasy World
Nexon Games Brings a Korean Folktale to Life in New Action Adventure
The debut teaser for Woochi the Wayfarer, released alongside Nexon Games' official announcement, has quickly captivated audiences. Its breathtaking visuals and immersive dark fantasy setting are already drawing lofty comparisons.
The trailer opens with a mysterious shaman named Myoan conducting a dark ritual in a decaying temple. The titular hero, Woochi, interrupts the ceremony. The confrontation rapidly intensifies as flames engulf the temple, Myoan undergoes a terrifying transformation, and the two engage in a fierce battle, with the shaman seemingly gaining the upper hand.

This action-adventure title is set in Korea's Joseon era and adapts "The Tale of Jeon Woochi," a fictionalized story based on the legendary historical figure. In the lore, Jeon Woochi is a powerful sorcerer and trickster who uses his magic to combat evil and protect the oppressed.
Woochi the Wayfarer is being developed by Nexon Games and LoreVault. Nexon Games is renowned for the iconic MMORPG MapleStory, the live-service shooter The Finals, and the acclaimed 2025 action RPG The First Berserker: Khazan. While LoreVault is a newer studio, Nexon's press release confirms they are leading the development.
"LoreVault, the developer of Woochi the Wayfarer, is collaborating with specialists in Korean literature and traditional music to authentically incorporate the nation's unique history and culture," the press release states. "The team is also scouting real-world cultural sites across Korea to meticulously recreate the Joseon period in high-fidelity 3D."
Woochi the Wayfarer Sparks Early Comparisons

Although the announcement is very recent, discussions on platforms like Reddit are already drawing parallels between Woochi the Wayfarer and titles such as Black Myth: Wukong, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. Some players have even noted similarities to the acclaimed Witcher series, setting initial expectations remarkably high.
With only a two-minute teaser to analyze, these comparisons are natural. Woochi the Wayfarer is the latest in a growing wave of action-adventure games inspired by East Asian mythology and folklore.

A clear sentiment emerging from fan discussions is a widespread hope that Woochi will not simply be another "soulslike" game. While the genre has a passionate following, many players are experiencing fatigue from the numerous similar titles released recently.
This year has already seen several soulslikes launch, with more on the horizon. Beyond genre debates, comments on the trailer often include phrases like, "Let me guess, it's another soulslike," and "Please don't be another soulslike," reflecting a desire for fresh gameplay experiences.

Regardless of whether Woochi the Wayfarer adopts the soulslike formula, it will be fascinating to see how Nexon Games leverages the game's unexplored historical setting and rich narrative potential.
Woochi the Wayfarer is slated for release on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. A specific release window has not yet been announced.
