YouTuber Charged with Kidnapping

Summary

  • Popular YouTuber Corey Pritchett is charged with two counts of aggravated kidnapping and has fled to the Middle East.
  • Pritchett posted a video from Dubai, seemingly mocking the charges and his fugitive status.
  • His potential return to the US and the ultimate resolution of the case remain unknown.

YouTube personality Corey Pritchett, known for his family vlogs and online antics, is facing serious legal trouble. Accused of aggravated kidnapping, Pritchett reportedly left the US shortly after charges were filed, leaving his substantial online following shocked and concerned. His main channel, "CoreySSG," boasts nearly 4 million subscribers, while his second channel, "CoreySSG Live," has over 1 million. One of his most viewed videos, a prank involving a baby, has amassed over 12 million views.

The alleged kidnapping incident occurred on November 24, 2024, in southwest Houston. According to reports from ABC13, Pritchett allegedly met two women, aged 19 and 20, at a gym. After a day of activities including ATV riding and bowling, the situation escalated dramatically. Pritchett allegedly threatened the women at gunpoint, sped away with them in his vehicle on I-10, confiscated their phones, and reportedly threatened to kill them. The women eventually escaped and contacted authorities, reporting that Pritchett had expressed anxieties about being pursued and mentioned accusations of arson.

Pritchett's Flight and Mocking Video

Charged with two counts of aggravated kidnapping on December 26, 2024, Pritchett had already fled the country. Authorities confirmed his departure to Doha, Qatar, on December 9th on a one-way ticket, with his current location believed to be Dubai. From there, he posted a video online seemingly making light of the situation, declaring himself “on the run” and joking about the allegations. This contrasts with the serious nature of the charges and the trauma experienced by the alleged victims. The case draws parallels to other high-profile incidents involving online creators, such as the imprisonment faced by former YouTube streamer Johnny Somali (though unrelated to Pritchett's case), and the 2023 kidnapping of YouTuber YourFellowArab in Haiti.

The future of this case remains uncertain. Whether Pritchett will return to the US to face the charges is currently unknown, highlighting the complexities and unpredictable nature of international legal proceedings involving high-profile individuals. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential consequences that can arise from actions taken, even within the context of online persona creation.
