Pesten With Cards is a beloved Dutch card game whose name literally translates to "Bullying With Cards"—a playful nod to its competitive nature. Similar games are enjoyed worldwide under various names such as Mau-Mau, Crazy Eights, Shedding, Uno, Puque, Чешский Дурак, Фараон, Крокодил, Tschau Sepp, and more. The core objective remains the same across versions: be the first player to empty your hand by playing all your cards.
To win a round, you must successfully play your final card—but there’s a catch! Before doing so, you must click the “Last Card” button located above your hand to announce that you’re down to one card. If you forget to do this before playing your winning card, you’ll be penalized with two extra cards from the stock, and your last card won’t count—you’ll have to wait until your next turn to try again. Similarly, if you mistakenly click “Last Card” when you still have more than one card, you’ll also receive a two-card penalty. Pro tip: You can click the “Last Card” button at any time—even when it’s not your turn—to ensure you don’t miss the chance to declare it before playing your final card.
How to Play
The game uses one or more standard decks, including jokers. Each player starts with 7 cards, while the remaining cards form the stock (face-down pile). The top card of the stock is flipped face-up to begin the discard pile. Players take turns clockwise.
If a special "Pest-card" (like a 2, 7, 8, 10, or Joker) appears as the starting card, its effect is immediately applied as if the dealer played it.
On your turn, play a card that matches either the rank or suit of the top card on the pile. Jokers and Jacks are wild—they can be played on any card, regardless of suit or number. If you can’t play a card, draw one from the stock. If the drawn card fits the pile, you may choose to play it immediately or keep it for later.
Special Cards & Their Effects
Rules for special cards can vary by region, so [ttpp] allows you to customize these in-game settings to match your preferred style. Here's the standard setup:
Joker
The next player must draw 5 cards. If they hold a Joker, they can play it instead—forcing the following player to draw 10 cards. Each additional Joker adds 5 more cards to the penalty. Drawn cards cannot be played immediately; play passes to the next person. Two
The next player draws 2 cards. If they have a Two, they can play it to pass the penalty—now the next player must draw 4 cards. Each consecutive Two increases the penalty by 2. In some rule sets (configurable), a Joker can be played on a Two, adding 5 cards to the total. A Two cannot be played on a Joker.Seven
You must play another card immediately. If this Seven is your second-to-last card and you can follow it with your final card, don’t forget to click “Last Card” before playing!Eight
Skips the next player’s turn. With only two players, this lets you play again immediately—similar to a Seven.Ten
All players pass one card from their hand to the player on their left. Select the card you wish to give away by tapping it.
