The developers at MercurySteam, alumni of Rebel Act Studios, bring a rich legacy to their new project, drawing inspiration from the cult classic game Severance: Blade of Darkness. Released in 2001, Severance was renowned for its innovative combat system that enabled players to sever enemies' limbs, injecting a gritty realism into the gameplay. This game became a cornerstone of inspiration for MercurySteam's new endeavor.
In crafting their latest title, the team at MercurySteam also looked to modern action-adventure games for influence. Notably, they drew from the cinematic combat and richly detailed world of Santa Monica Studio's God of War reboot. Their goal was to blend fast-paced action with RPG elements, aiming to deliver a deeply engaging and immersive experience for players.
A standout feature of Blades of Fire is its unique weapon crafting system. Players will have the opportunity to forge their own blades, customizing aspects such as length, weight, durability, and balance. This system allows for a personalized approach to combat, enabling players to tailor their weapons to suit their individual playstyles.
The narrative of Blades of Fire centers on the warrior Aran de Lira, who embarks on a perilous journey against a cunning queen with the power to turn metal into stone. Throughout his quest, Aran will confront 50 different types of enemies, each demanding a distinct strategy to overcome.
Blades of Fire is set to launch on PC (Epic Games Store), Xbox Series, and PS5 on May 22, 2025, promising a thrilling addition to the action-adventure genre.
