Call of Duty multiplayer creative director Greg Reisdorf has announced his departure from Sledgehammer Games after an impressive 15-year tenure. Throughout his career at the studio, Reisdorf played a pivotal role in developing several Call of Duty titles, beginning with the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, released in 2011.

Sledgehammer Games, established on July 21, 2009, in Foster City, California, launched its first Call of Duty title, Modern Warfare 3, just two years after its inception. Over the years, the studio collaborated with notable developers such as Treyarch, Infinity Ward, and Raven Software on numerous Call of Duty releases, including the recent 2024's Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and the highly popular Call of Duty: Warzone.

On January 13, Greg Reisdorf took to Twitter to confirm his departure from Sledgehammer Games on January 10. In a heartfelt thread, he detailed his significant contributions and experiences as a developer. Reisdorf's career at Sledgehammer began to flourish with his work on Modern Warfare 3, where he helped develop the Scorched Earth campaign mission. A particularly memorable moment from his work on this title was the chaotic sequence featuring Soap on a gurney in the Blood Brothers campaign mission.

Reisdorf played a crucial role in shaping the "boots off the ground" era of Call of Duty, notably contributing to Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. His work included the development of gameplay systems such as boost jumps, dodging, and tactical reloads, as well as unique weapon signatures, energy weapons, and multiplayer maps. However, he expressed mixed feelings about the "Pick 13" system, arguing that streaks should not impact essential items like primary and secondary weapons.

Reflecting on his contributions to Call of Duty: WW2, Reisdorf discussed the game's state at launch. He noted that the Divisions system, which initially restricted player freedom by locking weapons to specific classes, was quickly revised post-launch, a change he welcomed. In Call of Duty: Vanguard, Reisdorf focused on multiplayer, particularly the game's discovery and the classic three-lane maps, which he favored for their fun gameplay over military simulation.

Finally, Reisdorf shared his experiences working on multiplayer maps for the 2023 release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. He relished the opportunity to revisit and enhance classic maps from Modern Warfare 2 (2009), adding subtle details like Shepherd's skull on the Rust map. As the creative director of multiplayer, he was directly involved in creating Modern Warfare 3's live season modes, such as Season 1's Snowfight and Infectious Holiday modes. Throughout the year of post-launch support, Reisdorf contributed to over 20 modes in Modern Warfare 3. Looking ahead, he expressed excitement about future endeavors in the gaming industry, signaling his intent to continue his career in gaming.
